Qualifications and exams

To be able to receive payment for the giving of driving tuition, you have to be fully qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor.

To qualify as a Department of Transport Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) you have to pass three examinations, simply known as Parts One, Two and Three.

Eligibility

To be allowed to attempt these examinations, you must satisfy the following principal conditions:

  1. You must have held a full clean driving licence for at least four years.
  2. You should not have any criminal convictions, unless they are "spent".
  3. You must be able to read a number plate at a distance of 27.5m (90 feet).
